What is making noise in my attic?
In Brevard County it's most often roof rats or squirrels, sometimes raccoons, and occasionally bats. Time of day is the biggest clue: fast, light scampering after dark is usually roof rats; daytime activity, especially early morning and dusk, is usually squirrels; heavy, slow movement and thumps at night point to raccoons; and a rippling, chittering sound near a gable or soffit at dusk suggests bats. A free inspection confirms which it is.
Can you remove bats from my attic right now?
It depends on the calendar. Florida's FWC prohibits bat exclusion during maternity season, April 16 through August 14, because flightless pups are in the roost and sealing the adults out would trap the young inside. Outside that window we can exclude bats; during it, we assess the situation, address any immediate safety concerns, and schedule the exclusion for the earliest legal date.
