Palm Bay Squirrel Removal and Squirrel Control

Squirrel RemovalWhen nuisance wildlife like squirrels invade a home or business, they live in attics, chimneys or hidden areas that are rarely accessed. Read more information on how they invade homes. In addition to being home pests, squirrels in your home can cause severe damage to your home and attic insulation. The best way to trap and remove squirrels in your attic is by using squirrel traps, which work for all types of squirrels, this is the most humane way to trap and remove home pests when it comes to Palm Bay squirrel removal. However, removing them is not enough. Every home or business should be made less squirrel friendly and favorable to get rid of squirrels for good.

With a little bit of help from a wildlife removal expert, setting up squirrel traps to rid your home or business of nuisance wildlife can be achieved by inspecting homes to identify and seal the entry points that squirrels use to enter the house. (identify and seal the areas where they enter the house.) These entry points should be sealed with a hard material that cannot be chewed off like a metallic mesh or plate. Entry points inside chimneys should be covered with chimney caps and metallic meshes while other holes/spaces should be covered with metallic plates.

An additional pest management tip that any animal control professional will tell you is that it would be a good idea to cut off local branches of trees that extend all the way to rooftops in order to decrease the number of squirrels in your home. Removal experts from various wildlife removal companies typically say that the local branches should be cut to about 8-10 feet away from the rooftops to make it impossible to jump from the squirrel’s nest to attics and chimneys.

Squirrels also have a habit of looking for food in bird feeders so when your issue is pest management, it would be wise to stop using them so as to limit the food available to squirrels eating. This will eventually make them leave their nesting sites in your home or business and move to other areas in search of food. Other management programs for getting rid of squirrels such as using squirrel remover repellents, poisons, strobe lights or radio noise are not effective wildlife management methods and should not be invested in. Signs of squirrel infestation that needs Squirrel Control

Squirrel Roof Attic DamageSquirrel infestation can be determined with the appearance of certain signs. These 9 signs include:

  1. Spotting squirrel droppings inside the house. Squirrel droppings can be mistaken for bat or roof rat droppings but it is possible to determine which animal it is from by using an expert.

  2. Signs of squirrel damage often include chewed up electrical wires, shingles, and attic insulation interiors. Squirrels have a habit of chewing off anything soft that they come across so this sign most likely means squirrels are present in the house.

  3. Hearing funny noises from squirrels eating, fighting, scratching or chasing each other on the attic.

  4. Seeing squirrels vs each other in a fight on several occasions. This means that their population is too large for their nesting sites because they fight mostly for limited resources such as food or shelter, while this could seem like the squirrels are providing their own management programs, another issue arises due to dead squirrels, causing the additional need of dead animal removal.

  5. Smelling a pungent odor. Squirrels sometimes accidentally die within their nest in the house and their decaying bodies produce a very pungent smell. (In the event of dead squirrels, we also offer dead animal removal.)

  6. Spotting Squirrels walking along electricity lines, rooftops, chimneys and entering into attics.

  7. Seeing several tree hollows or nests in tree trunks.

  8. Occasionally spotting dug out holes on the ground. Any critter control expert will explain this happens because squirrels like to store their food in holes when they have plenty and later dig them out when they have little to eat.

  9. Destroyed flowers. gardens and trees.

Squirrel Diseases

Palm Bay squirrel removal is important because not only does it get rid of the risk of squirrel damage to structures like the attic insulation (fortunately we do offer attic restoration) in your home or business, it also gets rid of the risk of some health-related problems. Squirrels are known in some cases to carry diseases which can be spread in your home or business, but most often they carry fleas and ticks that might be spread over to pets. Once this happens, these home pests can spread all over the house because fleas and ticks can hide in cloth like materials like seat cushions and carpets making it very difficult to exterminate them. This increases the chance of getting tick bites, which may cause Lyme disease (causes nerve pain and inflammation of the brain and spinal cord) and flea bites, which cause skin irritation and inflammation.

Their droppings are also a health risk, (with the removal cost included alongside the pest control cost for getting rid of the squirrels in homes and any squirrels in attics.) They can potentially carry diseases such as leptospirosis and salmonella. Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection which in its mild form causes headaches and pains in the body while in its serious condition causes organ failure and internal bleeding. Salmonella (food poisoning) is mostly known for causing diarrhea.

These health risks can be avoided by keeping squirrels out of homes and hygienically removing any squirrel droppings found within the house.

Squirrels belong to a family of small and medium-sized rodents called Sciuridae. This family includes animals such as chipmunks, prairie dogs, and marmots. Apart from flying squirrels, they are classified based on their habitat as tree and ground squirrels. Tree squirrels include the fox squirrel and eastern gray squirrel of North America and the red squirrel found in Europe and Asia. Ground squirrel is a general term referring to all medium-sized ground squirrels.

Some types of squirrels species have adapted and thrived in urban environments, which is why critter control experts from our wildlife management company will often find squirrels in your attic. With squirrels in homes, this usually begins leading to some form of relationship between them and human beings. This relationship exists mainly in three forms. Humans view squirrels as food, urban wild animals or the most common one, as pests. When they become too many, the squirrels in homes are more likely to cause squirrel damage to human beings because they invade their home to search for food and shelter.

How to Get Rid of Squirrels
There are several species of squirrel, but tree squirrels are the most common nuisance for homeowners because they inhabit attics and garages and cause damage. They often gnaw on the exterior and interior walls, timbers, cables, and electric wiring. They have been known to short out electric power transformers due to their activities around power lines. Squirrels are typically discovered because they make a lot of noise in the area they inhabit. The gray squirrel is the most common structure-infesting squirrel species.

Squirrels are abundant in the wild because their numbers far exceed the number of predators. The large population and decreasing natural habitat due to construction in many areas cause them to seek shelter in houses. The chilly months of fall and winter cause squirrels to seek the warmth that is found in attics.

Flying Squirrels

The typical habitat for the Flying Squirrel is inside tree cavities in hardwoods. Smaller than the gray critter, they enter the tiniest of cracks and holes. The flying squirrels are about 9 inches long, which includes a 3-4 inch tail and weigh about 3 ounces as an adult. They have a dense, soft brown fur, white belly. The flying squirrels don’t really fly but glide into attics from trees. They glide using a thin skin that extends out from the sides of the body and connects the front and hind legs as shown in the above picture. In “flying,” the squirrels leap spread-eagled and use their outstretched gliding membranes for gliding and their bushy tails for guidance. Glides of 60 meters (almost 200 feet) or more have been recorded of the Flying Squirrels

Fly squirrels are nocturnal with their major activity at night. They are known to make plenty of noise during the night. Can by commonly heard, making a great deal of noise at night between sunset and sunrise. They may be heard landing on the roof or the sides of the house.

How Flying Squirrels Enter Buildings
Flying Squirrels can enter the attics through the eaves and soffits thru small cracks. These squirrels may easily enter the space between the roof top and facia board, chewing the area for a wider entry point.

After trapping and relocating the critters you can seal the openings with 1/4″ mesh hardware cloth or metal flashing. Look for all possible entry points. If you are not handy with tools, many nuisance wildlife control companies will seal entry points with a year’s guarantee for a fee.

Trapping and moving these nuisance critters are the usual things to do when trapping them. Before anything else, consult the laws of your local and state to avoid any unnecessary conflicts. In the different cities in the different states of the country, capturing a wildlife critter is prohibited. Be mindful when trying to trap these creatures by yourselves. Always check the places that are possible for them to live in if there are babies that they left. If these little babies are not caught, they will not just cause you damages but also foul odors when they die because the mother is not there to take care of them. Taking the mother several miles away from its babies will not stop them from coming back for them. A professionally licensed nuisance critter trapper may advise you not to expel the nuisance critter if there are baby critters involved for it may prove to be difficult to exclude relocate them. Provide a trap that is with the proper size and strong enough for it to not be able to escape once you are done with it. A weak trap can be easily be broken for these nuisance critters are very agile and smart and powerful enough to do destroy it. The distance of relocation must be accounted for when doing the trapping by yourself.

Some of their favorite places they like to intrude in your home are chimneys, attics, or anywhere that is dark and has fewer people in it. Residents of the area may find themselves in nuisance critter trouble in the last minute for these animals are not usually seen during the day. Sooner or later they will discover these nuisance critters because of the noises they make. The resident or homeowner by this time should call a professional, licensed nuisance critter trapping expert.
