Natural Mosquito Control With Bats

Using Bat Boxes To Help With Natural Pest Control

Earlier this month we were contracted to remove bats from a chimney at a very nice home here in Palm Bay. The owner had been having problems with bats for several “seasons”. This year he finally called us to take care of the recurring problem. Today we installed a Bat Advantage bat house for mosquito control for them.

After performing a full house exclusion, and making sure the bat removal was complete. He decided he wanted to take advantage of their great mosquito reducing abilities. Bats in an attic can destroy insulation with guano and droppings which will require costly Melbourne FL insulation contractors.

The customer asked us to install a “bat house” to try to lure some of the displaced bats to his property. Keeping bats around will help naturally control mosquitoes. Bats were entering behind a home gutter area. Today On Point Wildlife Removal went to his home and installed a 3 chamber, bat box (or bat home) for him. There are certain things needed to make sure it’s successful, in the video James talks about those. “Mr. Customer” should start to see bats take to their new residence in 4-6 weeks. Full results usually happen in about 3-4 months (if not sooner).

While there is definitely a reason to not want them in your home, there is defiantly a reason to want to keep them close by. Bats can eat as many as 1,000 mosquitoes, per night, PER bat!

Bat House Installation

Watch out for neighbors having bat exclusion performed

Once a home with bats is excluded, and bats are removed, they will generally find the closest structure to inhabit. If your home is not completely sealed, you might be the unlucky one that they choose to live with.

If your neighbors have bats, or you see bats in your neighborhood call us BEFORE you get a problem. We can do preventative sealing for a fraction of the price, compared to a full removal once they move in.

Pricing for the bat box you see in the video, including installation and baiting, was only $199. Call us for a free estimate at your home. Find out how controlling bats and mosquitoes at the same time can be both affordable and help the environment!

Choose a sunny location on the East or South facing side of your house. Bat houses work best with at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight (if only partial day sun is available- morning sun is preferable). Bat houses should not be lit by bright lights, so installing near porch or security lights is generally a bad idea. Do not install your bat house above doors or windows where guano will fall or accumulate in an inconvenient location. Bats may find bat houses more quickly if they are located along forest or water edges where bats tend to fly. However, they should be placed at least 20 to 25 feet from the nearest tree branches, wires or other potential perches for aerial predators. – Source: https://www.batcon.org/pdfs/bathouses/InstallingYourBatHousebuilding.pdf
